from Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home web site: Douglas H. Stetson Heath- Douglas H. Stetson, 87, of Jacobs Rd., passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2012. Doug was born in Heath on April 2, 1924 the son of Herbert and Beulah (Hager) Stetson. He was a graduate of the former Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls, class of 1941. Doug lived in New York from 1973 until 1999 when he moved back to his home town of Heath. A self-employed dairy farmer, he was a member of the National Organic Farmers Association as well as past president of the Heath Agricultural Fair. In 1966 he was awarded the Massachusetts Farmer of the Year award. He was a member of the Heath Historical Society, the Heath Grange, served as a town assessor, member of the town finance committee, and served on the original building committee for Mohawk Trail Regional High School in Buckland. He was a founding member of the former East Charlemont Bible Church. He was a member of the Heath Union Evangelical Church and a member of Gideon International. His first wife, the former Beatrice Nada Corey predeceased him in Septemebr of 1998. Survivors beside his wife of 12 years, the former Alli Syvanen, include three sons, Rev. Neil D. (Rosemary) Stetson, of Dummerston, VT, Brian C. (Amy) Stetson, of Warren, NY, Bruce E. (Joanne) Stetson, of Shelburne, one daughter, Deborah L. (Robert) Coye, of Syracuse, NY, three step-children, David (Phyllis) Thane, of Heath, Beverly (Jack) Cable, of Chester, VT, Steven (Nancy) Thane, of Groton, NY, a brother, Kenneth Stetson, of Heath, two sisters, Muriel Antes, of Conway, Lois Buchiane, of Heath, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, nine step-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his brother Stewart, his grand daughter Hannah Coye in 2005, and his step-son William Thane in 2010. Funeral services will be Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 2 pm at the Heath Union Evangelical Church with Rev. Phil Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Heath. Published in the The Indianapolis Star on Apr. 19, 2013 Fred A. Stickle, Jr. 85, of Indianapolis, died April 16, 2013. Fred was born July 19, 1927 in South Shaftsbury, Vermont to Fred and Beatrice Stickle. He served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee. He began the Preventive Steam Maintenance Company in 1972, retiring in 1990 after selling to the RW Carter Corporation, which is still in business. He was a member of the Lawrence United Methodist Church, the Broad Ripple American Legion #3, National Association of Power Engineers, and past board member for the Stickle Steam Specialties Company Inc. He served as a sponsor for the first Alateen Group in Indianapolis. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Betty J. Knarzer Stickle; daughters, Linda Janel (Joseph) Reel and Cynthia Lynn (Douglas) Sweeney; grandchildren, Wesley Daniel Reel, Jordan Taylor Reel, Amanda Nicole Burnett, and Marisa Kate Reel; sisters, Hazel Jane Crosier, Bessie Sickle, and sisters-in-law, Martha Stickle and Norma Knarzer Calamito, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Mabel Stickle; brothers, Raymond (Clara) Stickle, Roger (Ruth) Stickle, and Cole Stickle; sister, Phyllis Harwood and brother-in-law, Gene Crosier. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 20 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Lawrence United Methodist Church, with a celebration of life service at 3 p.m. Private entombment will take place in Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Ehlers-Danlos National Foundation in honor of grandson Jordan.
