From: The Berkshire Eagle, June 10, 2015. Friends remember Florida resident Kyle Crosier as 'down to Earth' By Phil Demers FLORIDA - Kyle Crosier is being remembered by friends as "down to Earth" and "always smiling." Crosier, 19, was killed Sunday while riding his motorcycle on Route 9 in Cummington, authorities said, Officials believe Crosier failed to negotiate a curve while heading west with two other motorcyclists, according to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office. He struck a guard rail and was thrown from his bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Michael Gancarz, 20, of Florida, friend of Crosier's since youth, set up a Facebook page called RIP Kyle Crosier Forever in Our Hearts, as a place where community members can share memories and leave messages for his family. As of Tuesday evening, more than 1,700 people had liked the page and it had been visited by more than 30,000. Gancarz and Crosier attended Abbott Memorial School in Florida from preschool to eighth grade, then graduated together from McCann Technical School in North Adams two summers ago. "It didn't matter what kind of day he was having; he was out there putting forth the best effort to make everyone else happy," Gancarz said. Crosier had refined his machining skills and was working a job at Marland Mold in Pittsfield, according to Gancarz. He said Crosier was also an athlete who played football and excelled on the baseball diamond at McCann. Gancarz fondly recalled a grade school trip to Great Escape theme park in Agawam when the pair had geared one another up to ride the Comet roller coaster and then appeared terrified in the on-ride photograph. Emily Miller, 19, attended McCann with Crosier as well and was a teammate of his on the school's football club, which her father coached. "Everyone on the team called me 'Coach Miller's Daughter' and I hated it," she said. "Kyle was literally the only person who wouldn't call me that. He said, 'Her name is Emily. Respect her and call her by her actual name.' " Miller reminisced about joking on the sidelines with Crosier. "No matter the occasion, he was always smiling." Miller ordered and continues to sell $3 wrist bands she had printed in memory of Crosier, with profits going to the family. The initial order of 200 bands sold out quickly, Miller said. Gancarz and Miller said planning is underway for a weekend vigil, but details were not yet firmed up. Several months before his death, Crosier posted a comment on Facebook that Gancarz found poignant and reposted to the page he established in memory of his friend. "Never take people you love for granted," Crosier's post read. "You never know when they will be torn away from you." |
