This from http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/th/read/MAFRANKL/2002-02/1013143656 Joseph DAVENPORT was born on August 10, 1747 in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts.99 He died on April 14, 1821 in Colrain, Franklin, Massachusetts.100 A History of Colrain, Massachusetts, with Genealogies of Early Families, by Lois McClellan Patrie. p. 53 The genealogy of the family before Joseph is given in The Davenport Family by Bennett F. Davenport, M.D. in N.E.H. & G. Register pp. 25-34 of the year 1879. Joseph was a soldier of the Revolution, probably from Dorchester. In November of 1780/1 they came to Colrain, traveling by ox-led with five children. A story handed down in the family for generations recounts how the youngest child, Stephen, snugly wrapped in a blanket, rolled off the sled, en route, unnoticed by the rest of the family who preceded on their way. A doctor, name unknown, who was following on horseback at the some distance, found the bundle in the road, and hastening on, returned young Stephen to his family who evidently had not yet missed him. Joseph built a log house on Cary Brook, a tributary of the West Branch, about a half mile above Griswoldville, and here the family, or some members of it, lived for over a hundred years in the same house which was gradually enlarged nd modernized. He was married to Mary WHITE on December 6, 1770 in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts.101,102 41. Mary WHITE was born on May 24, 1747 in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts.103 She died on February 22, 1817 in Colrain, Franklin, Massachusetts.104 Joseph DAVENPORT and Mary WHITE had the following children: i.
