Individuals : Bernice JOHNSON
Research Analysis: According to James T. Snow :
Several good sources, including Vital Records of Massachusetts, say that Bernice Johnson was born in Westford, Middlesex, MA. Yet there is no mention in the Westford Vital Records of a Bernice Johnson being born, nor in the records of any town in Middlesex county or nearby counties. There is a Jonathan Johnson in the Westford birth records who appears to have had several children of the generation of Bernice. I'm guessing that she was one of his children due to the consistency of the aforementioned sources, and the fact that Jonathan had a daughter named Arathusa, who would have been the sister of Bernice. Bernice's first daughter was named Arethusa, and there are no Arethusas in the Gould side of the family. This arguement will have to suffice until more compelling evidence arises. (James T. Snow).

From: The New York TimesAUG. 30, 1964
EDGARTOWN, Mass., Aug 29-Miss Cynthia Noel Johnson and Malcolm MacKay, son of Mr. and Mrs. John French MacKay of Syosset, L. I., were married here this afternoon. The Rev. Rowland D. Cox performed the ceremony in St. Andrew's Protestant Episcopal Church. The Rev. W. R. Krogstad assisted.
The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Edgar Johnson Jr. of Far Hills, N. J., and Edgartown, was given in marriage by her father. She wore a gown of silk organza fashioned with a bodice of lace. Her tulle veil was fastened to a spray of orange blossoms, and she carried a bouquet of orchids and stephanotis.
Miss Helena Benedict Johnson was maid of honor for her sister. The other attendants were Mrs. James Park, Mrs. John French MacKay Jr., a sister-inlaw of the bridegroom; and the Misses Anne Alexandre, Anne Curtis, Sheila Johnson, a cousin of the bride, Marina Kazemzadeh and Elizabeth Snagge.
Robert B. MacKay was his brother's best man.
Mrs. MacKay attended the Queensgate School in London, and was graduated from St. Timothy's School in Stevenson, Md., and in June from Radcliffe College. She made her debut in 1960 at a dinner dance given by her parents in Far Hills, and was a member of the Junior Assemblies in New York that year. The bride's grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Francis Edgar Johnson of Far Hills, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Edey of New York and Edgartown.
Mr. MacKay, who is studying at the Harvard Law School, was graduated from the Green Vale School. St. Paul's School in Concord. N. H., and Princeton University, where he was a member of the Cottage Club. He is a member of the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club. The bridegroom is a grandson of Mrs. Charles J. Pflug of Plandome, L. I., the late Dr. Pflug and the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick de Mond MacKay of Huntington, L. I.
          From: Harvard Magazine MARCH-APRIL 2009
"Cynthia Johnson MacKay ’64 and Warren Joseph Keegan, M.B.A. ’61, D.B.A. ’67, met through his Harvard Magazine personal ad and married in 2007. “I want people to know how different and so much better later marriages can be,” she says. Younger unions are more like business enterprises, as she sees it; there are expectations around working hard, building a home, having children, succeeding in careers. “But when you’re older, it’s pure pleasure,” she says. “There’s no reason to be together except that you enjoy each other; you can negotiate any kind of relationship you want.” The Keegans, for instance, live apart most of the week and together on the weekends. And they have found a prenuptial agreement helpful. In fact, it makes life together “much less complicated: there’s almost no reason to get mad at the other person!” "
