It is known that John Crosier's wife had the first name of Martha from her gavestone. Most geneologists have John Crosier of Pelham, Ma. as married to a Martha Linsey at Kings Chapel in Boston, an Anglican/Episcopalian Church, this is doubtful. Kings Chapel was the chuch of the more affluent Bostonians, many whom were Torries, and seamen of the British Navy. John Crosier was poor, illiterate, Irish, and a Presbyterian. He would be expected to be a member of the "Federal Street Church" known more commonly and derogatorily as "Church of Presbyterian Srangers" however the records of that church are not included in "The Record Commissioners' Report of the City of Boston from 1700 to 1751". There is a family of James Crosier and his wife Mary whos' children were baptised by Rev. John Moorhead pastor of the Federal Street Church The lists of marriages in Boston from 1700 to 1751, Document 150 on page 224 has the marriage intentions of John Crosier and Martha Lindsey recorded on 29 Dec 1735 and on page 328 the marriage on13 Jan 1735, both at Kings' Chapel, Boston. This is would now be noted as 13 Jan 1735/36 because of a disparity between the Julian and Gregorian calendars. |
