He was born in Chester, Vt., Aug. 7, 1922, son of Grover E. and Beryl I. (Bosworth) Ballou. HOUSE - KSCareerFinder - instory - ROS A resident of Jacksonville, Fla., for a number of years, he moved to this area in 1982. Mr. Ballou worked at various furniture manufacturing jobs. He had been married to Caroline Hutchins. A CB radio enthusiast, he had also been a member of the Good Sam RV Club. Survivors include two sons, Ed Hutchins of Swanzey and Richard Hutchins of Hinton, Va.; a daughter, Darlene Wyman of Athens, Vt.; five brothers, Clifford Ballou of Chester, Vt., Grover "Bud" Ballou of Orange, Mass., Bertrand Ballou of Warwick, Mass., John Ballou of New Boston and Pierre "Peter" Ballou of Salisbury; a sister, Patricia Drown of Webster; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. A brother, Chester Ballou, died earlier. Spring graveside services will be held in Chester, Vt. |

Published in The Berkshire Eagle on Sept. 6, 2003 CORRECTION SEPT. 7, 2003 Maria Ellen "Marie" Dargie, who died Thursday, was survived by three brothers, Albert Barbuto of Dalton, Robert Barbuto of Adams and Russell Barbuto of North Adams. Because of an editing error, their names were omitted from Mrs. Dargie’s obituary in yesterday’s Eagle. NORTH ADAMS -- Maria Ellen Dargie, 78, of 1095 Mohawk Trail died yesterday at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown, where she had resided for more than a month. Born in North Adams on Sept. 2, 1925, daughter of Anthony F. and Celina Perras Barbuto, she attended Drury High School. Mrs. Dargie was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for many years. She began working with the company making gas masks and made her way up through the ranks. At the time of her retirement in 1990, she was corporate purchasing agent. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and a painter, preferring oils and watercolor. She also enjoyed playing the organ. She leaves two sons, Francis L. Dargie Jr. of North Adams and Michael D. Dargie, with whom she made her home. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Maria Ellen "Marie" Dargie will be Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 8:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Anthony’s Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. O’Hear, pastor. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 5 to 7. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, wife of Francis Dargie, Svetlana Breykin Dargie; nieces and nephews, and her longtime companion, George Roy. She was predeceased by a brother, Anthony "Sonny" Barbuto, and two sisters, Thelma Kelley and Aurora Oliver.
