Find A Grave Memorial# 176673259 From: Cyclopaedia of Biblical, theological, and ecclesiastical literature, Volume 12 By John McClintock, James Strong Crosier, Samuel B., a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born at Halifax, Vt., in 1812. He was converted at the age of twenty; soon after received license to preach; in 1851 was admitted into the Black RiverConference; became a superannuate in 1868, and died it Clyde, N. Y., Dec, 31,1870. See Minutes of Annual Contracts, 1871, p. 128. Mexico Independant, Wednesday January 11, 1871: Rev. Samuel B. Crosier died at his resilience in CIyde, Dec. 31st, 1870 Rev. Mr Crosier was born in Brattleboro, Vt, in the year 1815. He commenced his ministerial labors in connection with the Black River Conference, of which, and at a later date, cf the Central New York Conference. He was a highly respected member. For the last two years his health had been declining, so that he was unable to perform regular work. A few months ago he came to Clyde, and here amid family and appreciating friends be closed his eyes in peace. His last words were, "All is well." We have not the requisite knowledge to give even a fair outline of his useful life, yet certainly we may say something good of one of whom there is so much that is good to say. As a man, he was respected by bis fellow citizens, and we believe loved by all Who knew him well. As a minister of the gospel be was earnest and devoted to his work ; and he possessed much more than ordinary pulpit power. And if we accept the sentiment of the nineteenth century-that the successful man is the man who meets with success, and is not measured alone by what he may have learned in school -then Samuel B Crosier was a great man, for during the twenty years of his ministry be received into the M E Church over twenty-four hundred persons. Few ministers can show a record like this ; few, ah, very few will wear a crown set with as many stars as this man of God. With his expiring breath closed a useful life-useful to the church, for a faithful servant has fallen, useful to society, for amid the few true men who stand up for truth every where One cannot fall without his lose being felt. But he has gone, and we feel to say : "Servant of God, well done ; Thy warfare now is past; The battle's fought, the vict'ry's won, And tbou art crowned at last." His funeral services werehdd Jan. 2d, in the M E Church. The Church wns crowded to its utmost capacity. The service was under the auspices of the Mesonic Fraternity-for however others may feel upon this subject,Rev. Mr. Crosier was a sincere and true Mason. There were deputationi present from the lodges of Red Creek, Rose, Clyde, &s. We need not speak definitely, but we may say that their liberality upon this occasion was worthy of all praise. The sermon was preached by Rev. Mr Stanton of Syracuse. He was assisted in the exercises by Reverends W iles, Gates, and Green. Several other ministers were present. The remains of the deceased were deposited in Maple Grove Cemetery. There they shall rest until the resurrection morn.-Cor. Clyde Times. [The deceased was formerly pastor of the M. E. Church of this village.Ed. Ind. |
