He was born in Stamford, Vt., the son of Loren and Eliza (Oakes) Underwood, and was formerly employed by Dibble Lumber Co. in North Adams. His wife, Ethel (Crosier) Underwood, died in 1948. He leaves four nieces and a nephew. They are Miss Edilh Wright, Mrs. Lorraine Davis and Howard H. Wright of North Adams, and Miss Ruth Card of Filtsfield. The funeral will be held on Monday at the Simmons Funeral Home at 1 p. m. with burial at Southview Cemetery. |

Married Ethel Wilder Crosier. Child: Stuart George. Machinist. Post A. L., named in his honor. From: Thompsonville press, 1918-08-15 Arthur Stuart Rowley, 24, who was killed in action in France between July 18 and 25, was the eldest son of Mr. and 'Mrs. Arthur H. Rowley. He is the first Agawam boy to.have made the supreme sacrifice for his country... He was past commander of DeWitt Camp. Sons of Veterans, of which his father is one of the charter members, and was a member of the Sunday-school of the Agawam Baptist Church. On September 17, 1916, he was married to Miss Ethel Crosier of. East Long-meadow, where they later'made their home. On September 23, -1917, he was called into the service and sent to Camp Devens. On March 31, 1918, he was sent from Camp Devens and a few days later sailed for France. He was a member of Co. C, 18th Infantry. Frequent letters were received from him, always cheerful and hopeful; the last one by his mother. He leaves a widow and a son, four months old in East Longmeadow; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Rowlev of Agawam; two sisters and two 'brothers, Ralph Rowley and Mrs. Eva Buffett of Springfield, Henry lid Katherine Rowley at home. A memorial was held in the Baptist Church Sunday evening under lie auspices of the Sons of Veterim Rev. W. H. Dunnack, a former pastor of the Methodist Church, occupied the pulpit Sunday morning in the absence of the pastor, Rev. C. H. Van Natter, who is away on a vacation. " |

She was born in Glover, Vt., on Nov. 13, 1930, the daughter of John and Arlene (Deos) Crosier. On Oct. 14, 1951, she married Merle Jones. Evelyn loved being a homemaker. She loved to cook for her family and always had plenty for them to eat; her family meant the world to her. Tending to her plants, flower garden and vegetable gardens gave her great joy. She loved to visit and socialize with others helping out with 4-H, and going camping with Merle. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, a sister Euca Hubbard and her husband Charles, a brother Johnny Crosier and a brother William and sister Estelle who died in infancy, a brother-in-law Dennis Jacques, and her daughter Linda and granddaughter Lisa, who passed away in 1999. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Merle Jones of Waterford; two sons, Merle Jones Jr. and wife Connie of Monroe, N.H., Howard Jones and wife Koleen of Waterford; daughter Nancy Tourville and husband Mark of Waterville, Vt.; three sisters, Ramonia Allaire and husband Donald of Hyde Park, Vt., Marilyn Guyer and husband Raymond of Lyndonville, and Yvonne Jacques of Hudson, NH, a sister in law Luvia Webster of Chittenden, Vt.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Graveside services in Riverside Cemetery in Waterford will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family. Donations in Evelyn's memory may be directed to Waterford Fire Department and Rescue, P.O. Box 90, Lower Waterford, VT 05848. His father, Oiney Cook, was a native of the same town and for many years was a noted hotel keeper, He aiso was an influential man in town affairs, being tax coliector and chairman of the board of assessors for a number of years. Lyeurgus V. B. Cook was educated in Pelham and iiekiiertown. in the public and private schooU. After ieaving school for one year he was engaged in farming and in 1858 came to Springfield, where he iearned the mason's trade. After a short time he removed to Amherst and thence to Belchertown and was engaged in farming and lumbering for the next thirty years. He then moved to Burnston, where he conducted a boot and shoe manufacturing industry for a year and a half, retiring from the same on account of ill heaith. in 1887 he came to West Springfield and with his son purchased some real estate. They started n coal, wood, grain and grocery business, which they carried on for six years, when the coal business was sold to Mr. C. D. Farnsworth and the grocery and grain business to C. 1). Clark. Since that time Mr. Cook has been engaged in building and dealing in real estate. He was assessor in Belchertown for several years, and was a member of several appraisal boards of different raiiroads in that locality. in West Springfield he has been seiectman, overseer of the poor, and is now serving as assessor. in 18o2 Mr. Cook married Florence. daughter of Moses Crosier, a native of Belchertown. Two children were born of this marriage, Frank E. , who died when young. and Edwin D. Cook. Mr. Cook is a member of the order of F. & A. M. |
