From: beersandstory.com Palmer - Walter L. Cameron, Jr., 85, of Masonic Home Rd. died on January 16, 2010 at Overlook Masonic Health Center. He was born August 31, 1924 in Springfield, MA, son of the late Walter L. and Esther (Parkhurst) Cameron. In 2006, Walter and his wife Avie moved to Charlton after living in Palmer for 63 years. Mr. Cameron served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Lieutenant and subsequently graduated with his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Brown University. He went on to be the vice president at Sanderson McLeod, previously working at the former New England Metal Culvert. Being very active in the community of Palmer, he was a member of the Second Congregational Church and their organist for 52 years. Walter also played an active role in a community concert series during the 1950's. He was a member of the Palmer Rotary, American Red Cross, Adult Literacy Program at the library and was proudly appointed by the Governor to the State Library Association where he remained active for 12 years. He is survived by his wife Lola Avlin "Avie" Cameron along with his sons Jeffrey and his wife Janelle of Frederick, MD, Stuart of New Canaan, CT, and Scott and his wife Susan of Belchertown along with 6 grandchildren, Sean, Leslie, Elizabeth, Jessie, Douglas and Ariana and 3 great grandchildren. Walter also leaves a sister, Betty Spence of Duxbury, MA. Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 20th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Second Congregational Church in Palmer with burial to follow in the Oak Knoll Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Palmer Library, 1455 N.Main St. Palmer, MA 01069 or the Music Scholarship Fund at the Second Congregational Church, 1080 Pleasant St. Palmer, MA 01069.
