Roberta Rysz Culhane passed away on Sunday, Feb. 28, at her home in Williamsburg, Va. after a noble battle with pancreatic cancer.
An avid gardener and quilter, Mrs. Culhane was a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a bachelor of science degree in horticulture. She was a Conservation Commissioner for the town of Redding, Conn., and a member and officer of the Redding Land Trust. She was also a co-founder and first President of the Swampfield Land Trust (Danbury, Conn.). Mrs. Culhane was a member and treasurer of the Nutmeg Quilters' Guild (Conn.), and treasurer of the Colonial Piecemakers Quilt Guild (Va.).
Mrs. Culhane was assistant branch manager at the Hayestown Office of Union Trust in Conn. and employed at Citizen and Farmers Bank of Williamsburg. She was also circulation assistant at The James City County Library.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Culhane of Williamsburg; daughters Megan Galbraith of Cambridge, N.Y., Jennifer Culhane of State College, Pa., and Kerri Culhane of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Pearl Crosier of Orangevale, Calif; brothers, Joseph Rysz, Jr. of Elmore, Vt. and Peter Rysz of Norwalk, Conn.; two grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
Services took place in Williamsburg. Donations may be made to The Roberta Culhane Memorial Fund at The James City County Library, 7770 Croaker Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188, and Hospice Support Care of Williamsburg, 312 Waller Mill Road, Room 150, Williamsburg, VA 23185-3006. Abel Santos, 87, of Ludlow, died at home on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ludlow, Ma. on July 31, 1920, the son of the late Adao and Anna (Dais) Santos of Portugal. He moved to Portugal when he was 9 years old, returned to Ludlow when he was 18 and was drafted into the Army during WWII. He worked for many years in construction and at Westinghouse and retired from Uniroyal where he worked for over 30 years. Abel has lived in Ludlow for 69 years where he was a member of the Gremio Lusitano Club, Ludlow Golden Agers, and Ludlow Senior Center where he loved to go every Wednesday and play cards. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed being outdoors; and especially loved deep sea fishing and hunting with his sons. Abel leaves his wife of 56 years Lena (Arnone) Santos; 4 sons; Carlo Santos, of Wareham, Ma., Arthur Santos and his wife Carol, of Indian Orchard, Jack Santos and his wife Mary Ellen, of Palmer, and Steven Santos, of Palmer; 10 cherished grandchildren, Kristin, Adam, Anthony, Carlo, Melissa, Desirae, Cassandra, Kaitlin, Christopher and Abel; a great-grandson Caleb, who is 4th generation Santos; and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his 2 sisters Amelia Alves and Mary Crisostomo. The family would like to thank Karen Peters for taking care of him for the last year and for being with him in his final hours. Funeral services are on Friday morning at 8:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday evening from 4-7pm.

Abel R. Santos ,21, of West Warren entered into eternal life on May 16, 2014. He was born in Springfield on August 13, 1992 and lived most of his life in Palmer. He was a member of The Boy Scouts of America Troop 161 where he earned the rank of star. He graduated High School from Mill Pond School in Springfield and was employed at Stacy Exposition Services Inc. in West Warren. Abel loved life and was always laughing and playing pranks on friends and family. He enjoyed air soft and Nerf gun play. He was a member of the 11th West Virginia Dismounted Calvary and the 9th MA Light Artillery re-enacting units. Abel leaves behind his parents, Steven A. Santos of West Warren and Cynthia and Holland Jenkins of Palmer, his grandmother Gladys M. Colapietro of Ludlow, his sisters Desirae and Cassandra Santos of Palmer, Kaitlin Santos and her boyfriend Christopher Geisler of West Warren, his uncles and aunts, Arthur and Carol Santos and Jack and MaryEllen Santos of Palmer, Mark and Ann Almeida and Brenda Lee Brooks of Ludlow. Abel also leaves his two nieces, Akasha and Akirah Santos-Thomas of Palmer, as well as many loving cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents Robert Colapietro, Abel Santos and Lena Santos all of Ludlow and his uncle Carlo Santos of Wareham, MA. Services for Abel will be held on Saturday May 24, 2014 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. A chapel service will begin at 10:00am at the funeral home with burial to follow in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday evening from 5:00-7:00pm. Christine M. Stawick, 87, of Punta Gorda passed away April 11, 2011. She was born June 18, 1923 in Germany to Franz and Friedericke Schulte. Christine was a travel agent and retired from the Pieper Travel Bureau in Buffalo. She was a member of the Punta Gorda Garden Club, Inc and
Ikebana Buffalo, New York Chapter, which she held several offices. Christine loved to cook, bake, and made wonderful European-type desserts. She enjoyed working in her garden and had a beautiful English style garden in Buffalo.
Christine will be greatly missed by her daughters, Heidi (Milton) Kaletta and Vera Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry.
A memorial service will be 11:00 am, Friday, April 22, 2011 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.

NORTH ADAMS -- Earl Joseph Senecal, 74, of 17 1/2 Jackson St. died yesterday at home.
Born in Clarksburg on Sept. 29, 1925, son of Louis and Mary Denno Senecal, he attended Clarksburg schools and the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams.
He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, serving from 1943 until 1946.
Mr. Senecal was employed as a construction worker for various area contracting firms for many years. He was also employed part-time as a bus driver for J.T. Bus Lines for several years.
He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and a member of the Dr. George L. Curran Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 996 in North Adams.
He leaves a daughter, Jacqueline Felix of North Adams; a stepson, Ronald Battis of Bennington, Vt.; a brother, William Senecal of Clarksburg; a sister, Marie Trudeau of North Adams; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and his former wife, Lillian B. Pierce Senecal of North Adams
- Graveside funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.

UNION, SC-- Mrs. Dorothy Setzler Whitney, "Dot", of Union, SC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at her home surrounded by family.
Dot was born on October 2, 1922 in Carlisle, SC. She was predeceased by her husband, William E. Whitney, Sr. and her parents, Arthur Bowles Setzler and Eva Gregory Setzler. She is survived by her sons, William E. Whitney, Jr., "Billy" and his wife Patsy, and James F.B. Whitney, "Jimbo" and his wife Anita; and her seven grandchildren, who were very dear to her, Emily Tinsley Whitney, Louisa Stanfill Whitney, William E. Whitney, III, "Will", Eva Marie Whitney, James F.B. Whitney, Jr., "Bo", Dorothy Ann Frances Whitney and Julia Elizabeth Elmeta Whitney. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Setzler Mobley; her niece, The Honorable Dorothy Mobley Jones; and her great-nephew, R. Findley Foster Jones.
She graduated from Union High School and Wingate College. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church. Previously, while living in Florence, SC, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She had a strong Christian faith, and lived humbly by always putting others first.
Services will be held at Hebron Baptist Church in Union, SC at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 20, 2010. The Adult Ladies Class is asked to sit together.
Visitation will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the church immediately following the service.
Memorials can be made to the General Fund at Hebron Baptist Church, 143 Hebron Church Road, Union, SC 29379.
